Bathroom Renovations: It's All in the Colors

For your bathroom renovations, picking out the appropriate colors will really help transform your bathroom, making them look like new. However, mixing and matching colors is not something you do blindly or on a whim. You need to follow some simple rules in combining colors.

You could start choosing your color base on their inherent attributes. For example, is the color pleasant to the eye or too loud? Does it exude warmth and coziness or more of making a fashion statement? To be able to make a good choice, it is best to recall your colors 101 and understand how colors are formed and the messages associated with each.

Let us start with your reds, yellows and blues or your primary colors, which are all pure and not a product of any combination of colors. Your secondary ones are the orange, green and violet, which are the products of two primary colors combined together. You get your tertiary colors by blending one primary and one secondary color.

We often color our interiors with tints, which are colors combined with white. Tints are refreshingly clean colors, ranging from the lightest pastel to the more saturated or color with the slightest hint of white. A few examples of tints are the Ice Blue, Vanilla and Mint, which are ideal for indoors because they are very visually pleasing and not overpowering.

Walls are ideally painted with tones and shades, which are basically colors with grey tones or black shades. The whole spectrum may range from very faint soft tones to really deep rich colors. Olive is a common choice for a feature wall.

In truth, any of the colors within a particular category or shade can be combined based on your preferences. However, if you choose to follow the color scheme rules, you can do so. In this way, your bathroom will be appealing to more people and not only you since rules are generally followed by many.

You can use various schemes for your bathroom renovations. Harmonious schemes are created by choosing two or three color families next to each other on the color wheel. This particular scheme can be from the side of the wheel featuring cool or warm colors, perfect for interiors. Some people use monochromatic schemes for their bathroom because it is a safe choice and does not favor any kind of personality or category like pink for girls and blue for boys. However, these may seem a little bland, but with the right design, it may come out very elegant.

Many individuals are preferring contrasting colors, which are those opposite on the color wheel like red and green, blue and orange, or yellow and purple.

If you want a more cheerful and bright interior, you could choose a diad, which are two colors apart on the color wheel like orange and red. However, be very careful in choosing this particular scheme because they can be very loud. The same goes with a triad, or using three colors that are alternately apart on the color wheel like your yellow, blue and red. These are great for a child’s bathroom, but children grow so fast and you may need to renovate again in a few year’s time.

If your personality prefers very bright and outrageous colors like a tetrad, which are four or more colors on the color wheel. This kind of color scheme is not usually used in a family or residential environment, but if you are bent on being unique, it is your call. After all, it is your bathroom and your own personal space so let your imagination soar free and create something that is wonderfully and uniquely you.
